Jonathan R. Ruckman is an associate attorney at Sapon Immigration Law, where he focuses on I-9 compliance and family-based immigration, including adjustment of status, U visas for crime victims, VAWA petitions for survivors of domestic violence, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS), and naturalization. He represents individuals and families navigating some of the most personal and high-stakes areas of immigration law, guiding clients from initial filing through interview preparation and, where necessary, complex requests for evidence.
Jonathan brings a client-first, detail-oriented approach to every case, shaped by years spent representing indigent clients through some of the most difficult matters in immigration practice. Earlier in his career, as an immigration attorney with Catholic Charities of Louisville, he managed an annual portfolio of more than 300 cases spanning removal and deportation defense, asylum, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, refugee and Cuban adjustment of status, family immigration, and naturalization, and appeared regularly in federal immigration court on his clients’ behalf. That experience continues to inform how thoroughly he prepares each case and how closely he communicates with clients throughout the process.
Jonathan serves on the board of Immigrants Act Now, a local immigrant rights organization, and is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA). Before returning to the practice of immigration law, he spent several years in clinical leadership at a Louisville nonprofit and holds a Master of Science in Social Work and an LCSW credential.
When not working, Jonathan spends as much time as he can with his wife and three young children. Jonathan is also a cellist, who was formerly a tenured member of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra in New Orleans. He still performs as a substitute cellist with the Louisville Orchestra when his schedule allows.
